The Inspiration

While the wish of the Jews is not realized, Bishop Edir Macedo, inspired by the Holy Spirit, decided to build a replica of Solomon's Temple in São Paulo. He says that during a trip to the Holy Land, he spoke with other bishops that he desired that all the people of the Universal Church could, at least once in life, step on the stones on the floor which one day Jesus stepped. After that comment, he reflected: "If I cannot bring all the people here, so I'll take pieces of the land for them." After this day, the idea took shape and on July 2010 the great work, the planned Biblical references of the Temple of the past, was announced.
This new Temple will not be coated with gold, as was the first construction of Solomon, but everyone will have free access to seek God, unlike in the past the temple, which only the high priest was allowed to enter into the Holy of Holies. Bishop explains the importance that the place will represent for the Christian faith: “This is not a church project, much less personal, but something as glorious, the spiritual point of view, which surpasses the reason itself. Certainly it will awaken the sleeping faith of the cold or warm people and blast to a national revival and soon worldwide.”
With bases in the biblical guidelines, architects and engineers have worked their best to bring the likeness of the former temple to the new building. According to the architect and author of the project, Rogério Silva de Araujo, the data were collected both from biblical passages and also from the ruins that are in Israel at the Wailing Wall. "In ancient Egypt, a cubit

was a measure of withdrawal distance between the elbow and the fingertips, this corresponded to 18 inches, or 52.4 cm. With the information which was researched, it was possible to calculate that the house which King Solomon built for the Lord has the average of 31.44 meters long, 10.48 meters wide and 15.72 meters tall. Also in reference to the passage of Haggai, chapter 2.9, which says: 'The glory of this latter house shall be greater than the first,' we did a major project, seeking the loyalty to the time, through materials and elements used internally” he explains.
It will be a mega church, with 126 meters long and 104 feet wide, dimensions that exceed those of an official soccer field and the largest temple of the Catholic Church in the city of São Paulo, "the Cathedral of Sé". There are more than 70 000 square meters of built area in a city block of 28,000 meters. The height of 55 meters will be nearly twice the height of Christ the Redeemer. The scheduled completion of the temple will be in about four years, the work will be a milestone in the history of the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God.
