About 8 million people gathered across all of Brazil on Wednesday, April 21st for D Day, also known as the Day of Decision. The event, promoted by The Universal Church, called people to join in prayer for better days.
D Day took place in the 27 capitals of Brazil and in Campos dos Goytacazes in Rio de Janeiro. Streets, squares, stadiums and even racetracks were packed with members in every state.
The racetrack in Interlagos, São Paulo, was filled with people in search of spiritual comfort. Over 5,000 buses arrived to the location forming a immense line outside.
Estimates say that over 2.3 million people attended the event in the state capital. The heat of the sun and the thermometers reading over 86 degrees celsius weren't enough to discourage the public.
The Day of Decision has been happening now for 23 years and is an invitation for people to reflect on the changes that they want for their lives.
The mayor of São Paulo, Gilberto Kassab, was present on D Day and praised the initiative of the Church:
"The event proceeded without any complications, and its size exceeded the expectations. Estimates show that we have over 2 million people. It's impressive. The church's power of mobilization worked very well, with people coming from every city in the state, especially the capital for this massive gathering. "In Rio Grande do Sul, the event was in gym Gigantinho, in Porto Alegre and it attracted around 100 thousand members. In Santa Catarina, the event was held in the center of Florianópolis and had approximately 170 thousand people. In Curitiba, there were 100 thousand participants.In the central region of the state, 150 members gathered in the stadium Serra Dourada in Goiânia. In Brasilia, the event was held in the Mané Garrincha stadium and had 100 thousand participants.
The cove of Botafogo, one of the most beautiful sights in Rio de Janeiro, had 2 million people on this Day of Decision – the number was 50% greater than those who were present in Copacabana for New Year's. Caravans of different state regions went to this location.
Aside from the members of the UCKG, the event also gathered people from all religions. So that all could be part of this event, over 78 sound boxes were spread throughout the cove.
In the metropolitan region of Belo Horizonte, in Santa Luzia, 200 thousand people gathered.
In Fortaleza, another racetrack was crowded with members. Approximately 350 thousand people were spread across the track and the bleachers. In addition, 2,600 buses took people from all Ceará to the location.
The beach in Boa Viagem, the most famous one in Recife, also hosted this celebration of faith with 70 thousand people. In Sergipe, 25 thousand members gathered in the sports gym Constâncio Vieira.
D Day for Bahia was held in the Exposition Park in Salvador. A multitude of 500 thousand people in an atmosphere of joy filled the place.
In Rio Grande do Norte, over 30 thousand people participated in the Day of Decision in the Machadão stadium in Natal.
In Belém do Pará, at least 200 thousand people gathered in Mangueirão, the greatest olympic stadium of the northern region. Many members arrived in caravans that came from the state's interior. They were close to 240 buses from all regions and over 500 only from the capital and metropolitan region.
The realization of D Day in all these cities was marked by the moment when Bishop Edir Macedo, leader of The Universal Church, sent a message to all the people. From London, UK, he spoke live to all the Brazilians that were present.
