Sacrifice literally means to lose or letting go of something of value for a purpose, dream or solution of a problem.
.. there is a universal law, which is; No one can overcome without sacrifice. If a child wants to have good grades in school he has to sacrifice, if later he wants a higher grade he will have to sacrifice. If a person wants to get married, likewise he will have to sacrifice. If you want to be successful in business, you must sacrifice. If someone wants to have children he will have to sacrifice. And so on.
The act of sacrifice is essential for the Christian faith. “ Jesus said that if a person is not prepared to leave (sacrifice) everything, even his own life, he cannot be His disciple. (luke 14:26,36)
Here are some key points in the Bible that show us why we should sacrifice:
1. Reveals the spiritual condition of a person (Matthew 6:21). A young man in Mark 10.17-30, turned his back to Jesus when he was asked to sacrifice. His knowledge in the Word of God was good for nothing. At the time of sacrifice he showed his true spiritual level with God.
2.The shortest and safest way for the victory (1 Samuel 8-10). The people of Israel made sacrifices before going to battle to get the assurance that the grace of God was upon them.
3. Not even God could avoid it (Ephesians 5.1-2). If there was an easier way to get what He wanted, He would have chosen it. But there wasn’t. Not even the Almighty God could prevent the sacrifice. In fact, He made the greatest sacrifice presenting His Own Child!
4. It shows a total dependance on God and independence from other things (Gen. 22.8). When you place a true and perfect sacrifice on the altar, automatically you free yourself from all the things that imprisons you, placing God in the position of being obligated to sustain you.
5. It is the only way to reveal what is in the “heart” of a person (2 Samuel 24.21-24).
6. Our sacrifice is not to help God but ourselves. (Psalm 50.12-15). It shows that you have the real fire of faith burning within you.
7. It allows us to get closer to God (Hebrews 10.19-22). The true meaning of the expression of sacrifice in the Bible, comes from a Hebrew word, which means “to get closer or to bring you closer to God”.
8. It gives me total assurance of God’s answer (Genesis 22.16-18). Sacrifice brings me to a reality that all things are possible.
Without an objective there is no sacrifice. No sacrifice, no results! No pain, No victory!
